Back Like I Never Left

Hey y’all I’m back AGAIN & this time I’m staying! I sincerely apologize for leaving you guys hanging yet again. I’ve been hella busy with school, work, and attempting to have a social life.😫 During my month-long hiatus, God has truly been blessing me with great opportunities and experiences. I recently gained an internship at a physical therapy clinic, I won a writing contest, and I’ve been asked to work on a few styling projects #YayMe!GIPHY

Keep scrolling to see a few outfits I put together while I was gone. ⬇️ Hope y’all enjoy!

Autumn Falls 🍂

I put this little number together on a nice breezy day out. I paired black jeans, with a brown sweater, and furry loafers (Gucci dupes). This outfit was more on the dressier side compared to what I usually wear, but it’s always good to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while.

  • Brown Sweater: Shein
  • Black Jeans: Hollister (I think)
  • Furry Loafers: Ego Shoes (on sale for $13.00!)

Warm & Comfy🤗

This outfit was super comfy and smooth. I wore some basic black leggings (Surprisingly they’re not see through), with an oversized green sweater, and crushed velvet vans. I love putting outfits together that don’t require a bunch of accessories to make them cute. The simpler the better ( well for some fits).

  • Green Sweater: H&M
  • Black Leggings: Forever 21 (only $3.50!)
  • Blue Crushed Vans: (Vans)

Halloween 🎃

So for Halloween this year I decided (At the last-minute per usual) to dress up. I raided my closet to put this beaut together. I paired a brown/khaki skirt with a plaid shirt and some heeled boots. I was going for a lumberjack (If y’all couldn’t tell lol).

  • Plaid Shirt: Target
  • Skirt: I really don’t remember 🤦🏽‍♀️
  • Heeled Boots: Bakers

Night Out 👠

For a night out I styled an oversized t-shirt (y’all know I live for these) with black knee-high boots. I added a belt around my waist to fully tie the look together. I wore this outfit for my friend’s birthday dinner, hours before the dinner I found this gem (the shirt) and I just had to have it.

  • T-Shirt Dress: Forever 21 (Men’s Section)
  • Belt: Nordstrom
  • Boots: Ego

Thanksgiving was a great day. I’m so thankful for so many people and so many things. I spent the day stuffing my face with delicious food and enjoying my loved ones. I wore a gingham print skirt, semi-oversized sweatshirt, and platform oxfords for a comfy, yet cute look.

  • Red Sweatshirt: PLT
  • Gingham Skirt: PLT
  • Platform oxford: Shein

Labor Day Classic 🏈

The Labor Day Classic football game was postponed to Thanksgiving weekend due to hurricane Harvey. Unfortunately, the PV Panthers beat the Tigers, but I still had a great time just being there. I went for an all black, edgy/laid-back look. I styled a black bodysuit, black camo pants, black denim jacket, and vans to achieve this streetwear inspired look.

  • Black Denim Jacket: Target
  • Black Bodysuit: Forever 21
  • Black Camo Pants: Target
  • Checkered Vans: Vans

That’s all I have for today, thanks for tuning into another one of my posts and for understanding why I’ve been MIA for so long.😅 Let me know which look was your fav and don’t forget to like, comment, and share this post. Stay beautiful people – Syd 💖.

Homecoming 2017

Hey, y’all I’m finally back after being gone for so long. I apologize for not consistently blogging; I’ve been crazy busy juggling school, work, and having a social life, but I’m back now and will try to incorporate blogging more into my hectic schedule.

Now let’s get into the post, my school’s homecoming was last week and it was honestly the best week of the semester! For those who aren’t familiar with what homecoming is, it’s basically a big family reunion where alumni, current students, and faculty come together to celebrate the school’s anniversary. This year was Texas Southern’s 90th anniversary so we celebrated immensely with a 90’s theme. Below are some of the outfits I wore last week that I thought tied in perfectly with the theme.

Tuesday’s look was something simple and sweet, I paired a cool graphic tee with black breakaway pants, black heels, and some silver chunky hoops. By pairing the breakaway pants with heels and hoops I transformed these athleisure pants into a cute and stylish look.

  • Silver Hoops: Forever 21
  • Graphic Tee: Target (Men’s section)
  • Breakaway Pants: Forever 21
  • Black Heels: Steve Madden

Wednesday’s look was bright and creative, I paired a Bum Equipment (brand) shirt with checkered shorts, checkered vans, and a black denim jacket ( it was slightly chilly in that morning). To add some separation between the two checkered print items I wore colored socked that matched the lettering on the shirt. I have to say the socks really completed the look.

  • Black Denim Jacket: Target
  • Bum Equipment Shirt: Urban Outfitters
  • Checkered Shorts: Shein
  • Socks: Urban Outfitters
  • Checkered Vans: Vans

Thursday’s look was a throwback, I wore a T-shirt dress (forever my fav thing to wear), with all white chucks, and transparent sunglasses. This outfit was super simple to put together and all the items went perfectly with each other. The sunglasses gave off a yellow hue that matched well with the yellow in the shirt, and the red, white, and blue socks added to the basketball theme of the shirt.

  • Sunglasses: Forever 21
  • T-Shirt Dress: Urban Outfitters (Men’s section)
  • White Converse: Journey’s

*Monday and Friday’s looks were purposely left out of today’s post because they weren’t as creative/interesting as the outfits mentioned above

That’s all for today’s post, again, I apologize for not blogging as frequently as I’d hoped I would’ve. Slowly but surely, I’ll get back into the swing of things. Let me know which outfit was your favorite and what else y’all would like to see from me. Don’t forget to like, comment, and share this post. Thanks so much – Syd 💖.

Save Those Coins 💰

Hey y’all, welcome back to my blog. I’m so sorry I haven’t been posting as often; with school just a week away, I’ve been running last-minute errands, making sure I have everything I need, and then some for school. With all that being said, for today’s post, I’ll be mentioning stores that offer student discounts as well as stores that won’t break your pockets. These are stores that I’ve personally used and highly recommend.

  1. Shein

This site is cheap! When I say cheap, I mean super cheap! If you’re like me and don’t like to spend an arm and a leg on basic tees & graphic tees then this site is PERFECT for you! Their selection is so huge you’ll be on there all day picking out tees. They sell other items such as jeans, shoes, and jewelry, but since they are a company based in China I stick to purchasing items that can’t really get messed up in the shipping process when it comes to sizing and actual appearance.

*Syd Tip: Purchase items that have reviews from actual customers who have bought the product that way you know what you’re actually going to receive in the mail.

2. Forever21

Of course, everyone knows that F21 is great for cute, inexpensive clothes. They frequently have sales and majority of their items are reasonably priced. To save those coins even further, they are offering 10% off your purchase if you have your student ID now until August 31.

3. Topshop

Next up is Topshop, this UK-based store is on the pricier side. Luckily, they offer a 10% off student discount all year round to help save some coins. Their clothes are great quality and definitely worth the investment.

Another UK-based store, ASOS is also on the pricier side, but like Topshop, they offer a 10% off student discount year round. ASOS’s doesn’t have a storefront here in Houston so to qualify for a discount sign up with your student email (basic email every university gives students) to be eligible for the discount.

5. Steve Madden

To all my shoe lovers Steve Madden offers a 10% off student discount❤️. Show your student ID to receive your discount. Unfortunately, this deal is offered in-stores only, so hit up your nearest Steve Madden to save a few bucks.

Other Stores That Offer Some Type Of Student Discount/ Deal

  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • Apple Music
  • Banana Republic
  • Charlotte Russe
  • J. Crew
  • Madewell
  • PacSun
  • Spotify
  • Urban Outfitters

Y’all, I’d be typing all day if I mentioned all the stores that offer student discounts. Before shopping at a new store, check online to see if they offer some type of discount or ask a store employee. Don’t be afraid to save money y’all.

*Syd Tip: Check out restaurants for student deals, often times they’ll offer free drinks or appetizers with a valid student ID.

That’s all for today, let me know what you thought about today’s post and if you know of any other places that offer student discounts. – Syd 💖

A Touch of Color 🎨

Summer is coming to an end and that means it’s almost time to trade in those bright colored outfits for more muted and subtle tones. Although it is almost time to put those bright outfits back in the closet, you can still make any outfit bold with a statement lip. This outfit I put together is something that is perfect for pre-fall or fall if your city stays hot and humid like Houston. Unlike other cities, Houston only has like two real seasons: summer and fall. It’s either hot and humid, or hot with a nice little breeze. With that being said, us Houstonians get to bend the rules a little when it comes to what we wear year round. For example, last “winter” people were walking around in shorts, t-shirts, and sandals like it was summer. Long story short, Houston has some conflicting a** weather that is very unpredictable.

For this look I paired my favorite high wasted jeans with a simple oversized shirt that I tied in a knot to shorten it & give it a more interesting look. I finished off the look with a cute pair of black sandals this look is very functional. You can easily transform this daytime look to a playful night look with a simple switch of the shoe.

Thanks for tuning in to another post! Let me know what you thought about today’s look, and let me know what you’d like me to talk about in my next post. – Syd 💖

Local Entrepreneurs

Hey y’all 👋🏽 for today’s post I want to showcase brands I’ve promoted that are owned and operated by young entrepreneurs in the Houston area.

First up is Drip City Clothing, created by Marques Chenevert. Drip City Clothing was inspired by the culture of Houston and the admiration Chenevert has for the city. Chenevert decided to make his own clothing line to be his own boss and accomplish something he’s always been passionate about. The “Houston Girls Do It Better” tagline on his shirts is to praise all the beautiful young women in Houston that put their minds to something and reach their goals.

To purchase your own “Houston Girls Do It Better” shirt visit and feel free to contact the owner on social media.

Next up is Shoptrapmoji, created by Trevor Jones-Smith. Smith wanted to create something that was universal and inclusive to everyone, so he came up with Trapmoji. Almost everyone has some type of virtual avatar and he noticed that no one had come up with the idea of putting those avatars on apparel. If anyone is as obsessed with using Bitmoji’s as a quick response to a text, then y’all should definitely hit up Smith for a custom hat. Smith doesn’t stop with making hats with one’s Bitmoji, he also customize hats with company logos, random sayings, and so much more. Don’t know where to get a plain hat for him to customize? No problem, Smith will get them for you! Just tell him what color, material (denim, satin, suede, etc.), and what you want on your hat & he’ll turn your vision into reality.

To get your own custom hats y’all can contact Smith on his business and personal Instagram pages.

Last but certainly not least is Univerdge, created by Cam’Ron Evans. As an adolescent Evans’ style was heavily influenced by skaters, musicians, and various artist. His alternative style didn’t necessarily fit the “norm” of how his family dressed, so he decided to conform to their style by buying a polo shirt. Not knowing he had bought a fake polo shirt (USPA) he proudly wore the shirt around his family. It wasn’t until his younger brother mentioned his shirt was a fake polo that he realized he was done trying to fit in and knew he wanted to create his own brand. The name Univerdge means to Merge with the Universe and Evans defines it as “Flowing with your destiny” and allowing the power at be to guide you to your highest level in life.

The Univerdge website will be relaunching Thursday August 3rd with brand new merch, but until then go and follow Univerdge on their social media sites.

Just Brunchin’ Around

Summer weekends are designated for fashion, family, and food, which is exactly what last weekend consisted of. The family and I enjoyed brunch at Brady’s Landing and it was phenomenal 😋. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and the food was even better. Their brunch is buffet style so you can literally sit there and eat all day, and that’s exactly what I did lol.

I had plates on top of plates filled with food, and by the end of brunch I was stuffed to capacity with a food baby lol. Their food options were abundant and wide ranged so I had try a little bit of everything. They had a crepé station, an omelette station, a shrimp & crab boil station, a chocolate fountain, and so much more! Y’all I was in food heaven 😇!

Now for the look, I paired a striped shirt with bright orange shorts, a black bag, and a comfy pair of black sandals. This outfit is simple, cute, and comfy; perfect for a nice day out with family or friends.

That’s all for today, thanks so much for tuning in to another one of my post! Feel free to leave a comment about today’s post! – Syd 💖

713 Day! 🤘🏽🔩

Hey y’all & welcome back to another fabulous post by yours truly 🤗. Thank y’all for all the birthday wishes, I greatly appreciate it ❤️.  I’m so blessed to have wonderful people in my life who support even my wildest dreams and aspirations ❤️.

I had an excellent day! For my birthday the family and I enjoyed a decadent Italian meal from Buca di Beppo on Buffalo Speedway. Buca is one of my favorite restaurants in the Houston area; the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and their portions are big enough to satisfy everyone’s hunger 😋.

My birthday look was somewhat a rendition of Rihanna’s look in the Wild Thoughts video. With the headscarf, transparent glasses, and ruffled shirt I really felt like a mini RiRi lol. This outfit was light, bright, and was just right for me 🤗 . This is the perfect summer look for any occasion. You can dress it up w/ heels or wedges or keep things casual w/ a cute pair of sandals.

Yesterday wasn’t just my birthday, it was also a Houston holiday 713 day 🤘🏽. For non-Houstonians viewing my blog, 713 day is is a day to celebrate all things Houston, from food, art, and especially music. Houstonians celebrate this day because it’s the only day that lines up with one of our area codes.

Below is a list of places you can subscribe to and receive a free birthday gift! 🎉

  • Ulta
  • Sephora
  • Starbucks
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes
  • Crave Cupcake
  • Sprinkles
  • + many more

That’s all I have for today, hope y’all enjoy todays post. Feel free to leave a comment and don’t forget to interact with me on my other social media sites! – Syd 💖

Brunch Crew

Hey y’all welcome back to my blog 👋🏽 so sorry I didn’t post last week, I need to get better at scheduling days to post 🤦🏽‍♀️. Instead of doing my usual OOTD post I thought I’d share my day with y’all via snaps and various selfies.

The fam and I enjoyed brunch Sunday morning at our favorite brunch spot, Baba Yega, located in Montrose. If you haven’t been, you should definitely give them a try. You’ll walk in with an empty stomach and leave with a full belly and a nap togo. It’s a buffet style brunch that’ll satisfy your cravings 😋.

For those that keep asking where I get my headwraps from, I just go to a fabric or craft store like JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby and purchase about a yard of fabric and boom you have an instant headwrap that you can style numerous ways.

That’s all I have for today, don’t hesitate to leave a comment about today’s post or anything in general and don’t forget to connect with me on my other social media sites! Also, let me know if y’all like this style of blogging over my usual OOTD post. Thanks, – Syd 💖

*side note – My birthday is Thursday, 713 day & I have a cool outfit in mind that I’m excited to show y’all 🤗  !

A 90’s Vibe

Welcome back to my blog. I can’t thank y’all enough for the support and positive feedback I’ve been getting about this blog. Knowing that people are actually viewing and enjoying the content I put out makes me 10x more committed to blogging 💖.

I went for a more casual feel with this look since I was just out and about in the city. I paired a simple crop top with high waisted shorts and checkered vans. I decided to finish off the look with transparent glasses and a satin headscarf to add a little flare to the look. The headscarf really tied everything together and was the perfect contrast to this bold pink background. This outfit is simple, yet stylish, I get 90’s vibes from this look with all the bold, bright colors and the kinda tomboyish feel this look conveys.

*side note – The headscarf is just a piece of fabric I got from the fabric store (on sale btw) that I just tied back.

If you’re ever in the Houston area you should drive downtown to the graffiti walls and take some pics. There are TONSSS of different backgrounds to choose from and all the art is done by local Houston artist.

Thanks for tuning in to another one of my posts, & feel free to leave comments on what you think about today’s look! – Syd 💖
